Achieve: Specialized Clinical Services

AchieveCT@GMAIL.COM

Clinical Therapy
Clinical therapy services are provided exclusively by certified speech language pathologists. For best outcomes, treatment of clinical disorders requires collaboration among school-based therapists, related service providers and educators.

Expressive Language, Narrative Skills, Semantic Skills, Word Finding
Language-based learning disabilities are problems with age-appropriate reading, spelling, and/or writing. This disorder is not about how smart a person is. Most people diagnosed with learning disabilities have average to superior intelligence. Programs include: Talkies, Visualizing and Verbalizing®, Braidy Story Grammar Marker®,  See ASHA cite for more information on Language Based Learning Disabilities

Speech Articulation and Phonological Intervention
The acquisition of speech sounds can be challenging for some children. Speech sound production is critical to literacy development. Our clinicians have years of experience helping children develop these skills in a fun and effective approach. In conjunction with school clinicians, we can supplement school services to further assist your child both at home and in school. Programs include: Kaufman Speech to Language protocol, LIPS™ Lindamood-Bell Phoneme Shaping, Complete Speech™, World of R. See ASHA for more information on speech sound disorders

Stuttering
Stuttering affects the fluency of speech. It begins during childhood and, in some cases, lasts throughout life. The disorder is characterized by disruptions in the production of speech sounds, also called "disfluencies." Most people produce brief disfluencies from time to time. For instance, some words are repeated and others are preceded by "um" or "uh." See Stuttering on ASHA.

Receptive Language
Difficulty comprehending auditory information impacts learning, job function, and social interactions. Listening and comprehension difficulties can be due to a higher-order, more global or all-encompassing disorder (e.g. Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) may well be poor listeners and have difficulty understanding or remembering verbal information).

Auditory Processing
APD is an auditory deficit (that is not the result of other higher-order cognitive, language, or related disorder). Treatment of APD generally focuses on three primary areas: changing the learning or communication environment, recruiting higher-order skills to help compensate for the disorder, and remediation of the auditory deficit itself. Programs include: Fast ForWord. See auditory processing disorder at ASHA.

Feeding and Swallowing Therapy
The ability to eat and drink are critical skills in sustaining life. The acquisition of these skills can be altered in children or disordered in adults following medical complications. We can assist in developing or retraining these skills to improve quality of life. Approaches include: Positive, systematic, sensory-based exposure See ASHA for more information feeding and swallowing.
